VSEC Test free plan

Test ECU security remotely. The ECU never leaves your lab.

Wire a Raspberry Pi to the ECU on your test bench and run security tests on the real hardware from wherever you work.

ECU penetration testing usually means shipping hardware out

  • Your few spare ECUs sit in transit, get held in customs, or never come back.
  • The outside lab has to rebuild a test bench you already have, and setup time goes to wrong adapters and calls explaining your wiring.
  • When the next software build lands, running the same tests again means sending the ECU back out.

How remote hardware-in-the-loop security testing works

01

Flash

Flash a Raspberry Pi 3, 4 or 5 with the image VSEC generates for you. The Pi comes online as your VSEC Bench in about 10 minutes.

02

Connect

Wire the Bench to the ECU on your test bench. One Bench can carry CAN, automotive Ethernet and UART adapters at once.

03

Run

Start the free UDS Security Access test case from VSEC. Then open the remote terminal, where most of the hands-on testing happens.

04

Repeat

Turn what you find into a custom test case (the free plan holds up to 10) and run it again on every new build.

Setup steps are in the VSEC Test docs →

Run your first UDS Security Access test within 30 minutes

The test runs on the free plan, so the only cost is the Raspberry Pi and the adapter for your ECU.

  1. 1Create your account at vsec.blockharbor.io. You start on the free plan.
  2. 2Flash the Pi and wire it to your ECU.
  3. 3Run the UDS Security Access test case. You can be testing within 30 minutes.

Which Raspberry Pi do I need?

A Raspberry Pi 3, 4 or 5; a Pi 4 or Pi 5 with 4 GB of RAM or more is recommended. We sell no hardware, so you supply the Pi and the adapter for your ECU, such as a CAN adapter for its bus.

Do I need a security specialist to use it?

Not to start: the sample test cases show you how a test runs against a target, and the free Starter Challenge walks you through basic CAN testing step by step. A full penetration test is still hands-on work in the remote terminal. If you would rather hand that work to specialists, our team runs remote penetration assessments through a Bench in your lab.

Put a Raspberry Pi on your test bench and start testing

The free plan gives you one user, one Bench, three sample test cases, up to 10 custom test cases and the remote terminal.
